In the cold weathers, the engine lubricant temperature can be lower than the optimal operating temperature range. Together with the low temperature environment and reduced load, the coolant / lubricant temperature can drop to below 60°C. If it happens, the viscosity of the lubricant would increase significantly compared to if it were operating at 90°C. As a result, more fuel would be consumed to keep the engine running.
